Thematic Thinking Cards

The Thematic Thinking Cards are a tool to assist educators in brainstorming thematic units that integrate multiple topics.  They are a set of color-coded cards that contain the NYS World Language themes and topics.  Educators can print and then cut out these cards.  Educators are reminded to consult the Themes and Topics document to identify which topics must be taught at each Checkpoint.

• Red:  Identity and Social Relationship theme
• Green:  Contemporary Life theme
• Blue:  Science, Technology, and the Arts theme
• Purple:  Global Awareness and Community Engagement theme

Strategy:  Place the cards face down on a surface.  Randomly pick up five cards.  Brainstorm a thematic unit that incorporates three or more of the topics.
