Required Actions

Target District Required Actions

All Target Districts are required to develop an annual District Comprehensive Improvement Plan (DCIP). This plan will be based on the DCIP Planning Document  and any school-level needs assessments and data that has been collected and analyzed by the district.  

Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) Schools

CSI schools must complete the following actions:

  • Participate in an on-site Diagnostic Tool for School and District Effectiveness (DTSDE) needs assessment. This process will be led by NYSED. For more information about the on-site process, visit the  DTSDE Process and Resources page. 
  • Review additional data and documentation to identify needs to be addressed in the school’s annual improvement plan. For more information, visit the Needs Assessment page.  
  • Conduct annual surveys of parents, staff, and students, visit the Surveys page. 
  • Develop, in consultation with parents, school staff, and for secondary schools, students, an annual School Comprehensive Education Plan (SCEP) that is submitted to NYSED for approval. For more information, visit the Improvement Planning page.   
  • Identify an evidence-based intervention to be included within the annual improvement plan, visit the Evidence-Based Interventions page. 
  • Each school year, establish a participatory budgeting process or an approved alternate means of increasing parent and student participation in decision-making. For more information, about this requirement, visit the Participatory Budgeting page.

Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) Schools

TSI Schools must complete the following actions:

  • Complete an on-site needs assessment that focuses on the identified subgroups led by the district.  This visit must follow NYSED expectations and Crafting Quality Recommendations Guidance 
  • Review additional data and documentation to identify needs to be addressed in the school’s annual improvement plan.  For more information, visit the Needs Assessment page. 
  • Conduct annual surveys of parents, staff, and students,  visit the Surveys page.
