NYSESLAT Call for Certified Teachers

Educator Involvement Opportunities for the NYSESLAT/NYSITELL

NYSED seeks qualified professionals to serve as committee members for ongoing test development activities for the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) and the New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners (NYSITELL). New York State-certified classroom teachers, with a special consideration for those who hold a certification specific to ELLs, are encouraged to apply to participate in the test development process. Activities for which educators are needed include:

Standard Setting: A three to five day meeting held in the summer. Participants will recommend performance standards for each level of achievement on the test.

Passage and Item Review: A week-long meeting held in the summer. Participants will review narrative and informational passages and items to be used on the Field Tests and Operational Tests for content accuracy, adherence to development criteria, and overall quality.

Rangefinding: A four-day-long meeting held in the summer/fall. Participants will review and score field tested constructed response items and select anchor papers to be used in scoring guides.

Final Eyes Review: A three-day-long meeting held in the late fall. Participants perform the final review of operational test forms before administration.

Please complete our online application to take part in these test development activities.

NYSESLAT/NYSITELL interested teachers are also encouraged to apply for other participation opportunities (particularly for the Grades 3-8 Assessments and Regents Exams), as including educators with ELL expertise is a priority for those committees.
