Video Presentation

The New York State Education Department’s Office of Special Education has developed the following video presentation for parents and families of students with disabilities and other special education stakeholders to obtain information regarding special education due process rights and the initiatives in place to address the backlog of due process complaint hearings in New York City. This presentation includes:

  • An overview of due process rights afforded to students with disabilities;
  • Information on technical assistance support available to families of a student with a disability;
  • Information on the transition, over time, of the New York City Department of Education’s due process impartial hearing system to the New York City Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (referred to as OATH); and
  • An overview of the Accelerated Order of Relief legislation.
