MaryEllen EliaThank you for your interest in AIMHighNY. The State Education Department is now reviewing applications submitted by educators for the Mathematics and English Language Arts Standards Review Committees. Once formed, the committees will review the recommendations from the AIMHighNY survey; review the current P-12 Common Core Learning Standards; and make any necessary revisions to the standards. Committee applications were due Tuesday, April 5.

If you submitted an application for a committee spot, you will be notified about your participation the week of April 25. Tentatively, those selected for the Committees will meet in-person and virtually (through phone or webinar) beginning in late spring 2016, and continuing until December 2016 (or beyond if necessary). In-person meetings will be held in July 2016 for no more than one week (5 days). Participants will receive reimbursement for travel, meals, and lodging at the approved State rate.

For those individuals not selected at this time, there may be additional opportunities for participation in the review process down the road. If such an opportunity comes up, the Department will reach out to you to let you know about it.

If you are a parent interested in participating in a review committee, please visit the NYS PTA website for more information. The NYS PTA will work closely with the Department to select the parent representatives on both Committees. You can find more information about the application process for parents here. Parent applications were due April 14, 2016.

Representatives from the business community will also be a part of the standards review committees. The statewide business council will be assisting the Department with selecting business individuals for this work.
