In this video, Tasha Potter, Assistant Superintendent for Equity and Access, and Sheena Conway, Director of Humanities, both in Penfield Central School District share information about district initiatives related to implementing inclusive curriculum and promoting an environment free of discriminatory and harmful language. Key to these initiatives was the development and use of specific protocols that can be used to identify and address discriminatory and harmful practices and language and to audit lessons and assignments for the ways in which they are culturally responsive. To sustain this work, they encourage others to center students as the focus of the curriculum, of the faculty professional development, and of community involvement and to look for opportunities to incorporate multiple perspectives, center non-dominant narratives, and uplift the voices of historically marginalized groups.
