Subject:
Section 100.2(c)(11) of Commissioner's Regulations Hands Only CPR requirement exemption for graduating seniors due to the COVID-19 Crisis
Date:
June 11, 2020

On May 1, 2020 Governor Cuomo signed an executive order closing school building through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. As a result of this decision, some students may have been unable to complete required instruction in Hands Only Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). At the June Board of Regents meeting, §100.2(c)(11) of the Regulations of the Commissioner were amended by Emergency Action.

The revised regulation provides that students scheduled to graduate during the 2019-2020 school year will be exempt from the requirement for the hands-only CPR and AED instruction outlined in the regulation, if such opportunity was missed due to COVID-19 closures.
