Teaching Students with Disabilities in Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 2) Statement of Assurance Form
A recent change in regulations will impact educator preparation programs leading to the Students with Disabilities (Birth – Grade 2) certificate (initial, initial/professional, and professional) for candidates enrolling in the Fall 2024 semester. The change revises the program’s pedagogical core requirements such that these programs must focus on developing comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and skills for teaching students with disabilities, including students with disabilities who are culturally and linguistically diverse. For more information regarding these changes in regulation, please see the September 2022 Regents Item here: https://www.regents.nysed.gov/common/regents/files/922brca9.pdf
The Department is asking each institution offering a registered educator preparation program leading to the Students with Disabilities (Birth – Grade 2) certificate to complete and return the Statement of Assurance Form by July 1, 2024 to OCUEedapps@nysed.gov. If you have questions, please send them to the Office of College and University Evaluation at OCUEINFO@ nysed.gov.
