Distance Education Program Database

For the purpose of this database, a distance education program is defined as one in which at least one-half of the requirements can be met through courses available at a distance. Some on-campus work may be required in some programs.  For more information, click on the Web address to go to the college's Web site.

Only distance education programs that are offered by accredited New York institutions and approved by the State Education Department (SED) are listed here. A student who enrolls in a program offered in New York that is not SED-approved may not be eligible for state or federal student financial aid, and the program cannot be used to qualify for New York State teacher certification or professional licensure.

Programs offered by institutions located outside New York State are not listed in this database. Information on those programs may be found in one of the commercial guides to distance education available at a large bookstore or public library.  The Distance Higher Education Initiative cannot answer inquiries about the reputation of institutions or their distance education programs.  Outside of New York State, the most reliable indicator that an institution's programs will be recognized is accreditation by one of the regional accrediting bodies:
