The New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT) hosted its 50th annual Rochester Regional Conference on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY.  This year’s theme was “1970-2020: Entering the Golden Age of World Languages – Celebrating 50 Years and Beyond in the Rochester Region”.  More than 225 world language teachers and administrators from the greater Rochester area attended this day of professional learning.  The event began with a general session by co-chairs Melanie Thomas (Spencerport) and Rose DiGennaro (East Irondequoit), a NYSAFLT update by President Leslie Kudlack, and a presentation on the World Languages Standards Revision process by Candace Black, Associate from the Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages at the New York State Education Department.  The general session concluded with the presentation of the NYSAFLT Friend of Foreign Language Award given to Nazareth College’s Casa Italiana, headed by Dr. Maria Rosaria Vitti-Alexander.  The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Jennifer Eddy of Queens College, CUNY.  Following the keynote, 27 workshops were offered on a variety of high-leverage teaching practices including Authentic Resources, Thematic-Based Approaches, the 3 Modes of Communication, 90% Target Language Use, and cultural updates in French, Spanish and German.
