Governor Paterson And State Education Deparment Announce $6 Million In American Recovery And Reinvestment Act Funding For Food Service Equipment Assistance Grants

New York State Governor David A. Paterson and the New York State Education Department announced today that 493 schools in 119 school food authorities have been awarded Food Service Equipment Assistance Grants totaling $5.99 million. The grants were made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.

Governor David Paterson said, "Ensuring our children receive an excellent education is an investment in our future. Good food helps students do better in school. Better equipment will help school workers provide healthy, nutritious and appealing food for our children. I thank the Obama Administration and our Congressional Delegation for including school food service equipment as part of the stimulus program."

The Food Service Equipment Assistance Grants are intended to improve the infrastructure of the National School Lunch Program as well as stimulate the economy by providing the opportunity for schools to purchase equipment that will improve the overall quality of meals, improve efficiency of production and service, and expand participation in the lunch program.

Priority was given to those schools with more than 50 percent of students eligible for free or reduced priced lunch.  A list of the award winners can be found at the following web address:
