West Irondequoit School District

In this video, Christina Miga, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction of West Irondequoit Central School District shares how the district designed curriculum and activities to includes students’ voices in the curriculum. This initiative began with rigorous professional learning, training, and coaching and culminated with student presentations at conferences and school board meetings. Teachers and staff also established a single-point curriculum rubric and embedded attention to culturally responsive-sustaining practices into their K–12 instructional planning model. To create and ensure systematic change, they coordinated efforts across the district, created protocols and planning documents to guide future work, and brought in outside perspectives and experts as needed.
