General Education and Diploma Requirements

 Users are encouraged to reference the Part 100 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, especially Section 100.5 for complete high school diploma requirements and alternatives for specific diploma requirements (see 100.5(d)). There are other Part 100 sections that may be useful, such as §100.1 Definitions§100.2(d) Languages Other Than English  (LOTE), and §135, Health & Physical Education.

  • Local Diploma via English Language Learner Appeal
    • Note:  In order to be eligible for this appeal, the student must have entered school in the United States during his/her 9th grade year while still identified as an English Language Learner during the 2nd attempt at passing the English regents exam.

Transfer Student Guidance

Diploma Options for Puerto Rican Students NYSED and the Puerto Rico Department of Education (PRDE) have agreed to allow students who were displaced by Hurricane Irma or Maria and subsequently enrolled in a high school in New York State to be offered the opportunity to complete either the New York State diploma requirements or the requirements to earn a diploma from Puerto Rico. This applies to students who had attained 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in Puerto Rico by October 2017.
