SCEP Support Virtual Visits

Identified schools implementing their School Comprehensive Education Plans (SCEP) receive a series of quarterly SCEP Support Visits to support the implementation of the SCEP and the development of the next year’s SCEP.

The extended school closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to impact plans to conduct Visits 3 and 4, both of which are critical to the development of the school’s SCEP for 2020-21.  To support the improvement process, New York State Education Department (NYSED) has developed protocols to conduct Visit 3 and Visit 4 remotely so that the intent of each visit could still be addressed without requiring the visit to be done at the school.  These visits will be referred to as “Virtual Visits.”

The SCEP Virtual Visit can be done through a videoconferencing or a teleconferencing platform.  There is no on-site requirement.

Additional information can be found below and in the SCEP Virtual Visit Guidance Document.

Virtual Visit 3

Virtual Visit 3

Purpose: To prompt reflection on the school’s ability to address the areas of need and root causes identified in this year’s SCEP and discuss the areas of need and root causes that will need to be addressed for next year’s SCEP.

Scheduling: Spring.  This visit should occur before the SCEP development team at the school begins working on the 2020-21 SCEP.

Additional Information can be found in the SCEP Virtual Visit Guidance Document.

Virtual Visit 4

Virtual Visit 4

Purpose: To reflect on the success of this year’s SCEP and review the draft SCEP for next year.

Scheduling: After the SCEP development team has already made a good amount of progress developing the 2020-21 SCEP.  Districts are also encouraged to delay this visit until there is a better indication as to when school may re-open, with the understanding that the longer school is closed, the increased likelihood that closure could result in new areas of need that will need to be considered in the 2020-21 SCEP that may not have previously been identified.

Additional Information can be found in the SCEP Virtual Visit Guidance Document.
