Dear Parents,

I know we're all looking forward to spring for warmer weather and more daylight. And as you know, spring is also the time when schools across the state administer the Grades 3-8 English Language Arts and Mathematics Tests. Updated parent resources about the 2020 tests are now available on our assessment website. The resources have important information about what parents need to know about the 2020 assessments and answer many frequently asked questions about the tests. You can also find these parent resources linked below.
Regional Meetings to Review Graduation Measures
As I mentioned in previous updates, the Board of Regents and the New York State Education Department (NYSED) are holding regional information meetings across the state as part of our review of New York State graduation measures. The meetings offer opportunities for parents, educators, stakeholders, and members of the public to share input on what a state diploma should signify to ensure educational excellence and equity for every student in New York State.

As parents, your feedback, opinions, and input on possible changes to New York State's diploma requirements are extremely valuable to us. I hope you will consider attending a regional meeting in your area. If you cannot attend a meeting but would like to provide feedback, there is an online survey of our five guiding questions on our Graduation Measures website.

The schedule of regional meetings is available on our dedicated Graduation Measures website. Please check back regularly for the latest information.

Finally, I would like to encourage you to subscribe to our My Brother's Keeper (MBK) newsletter, Changing the Narrative. In each issue, we share news related to the New York State MBK initiative, provide information about new grant opportunities, and highlight successful programs and strategies. This month, we're highlighting the 2019-20 MBK Fellows! Check out their profiles and find out what the MBK program means to them. Subscribe to the MBK newsletter today!

I appreciate your continued support, and I hope you encourage other parents to subscribe to our parent email list to receive my biweekly letter.

Sincerely,

Shannon Tahoe
Interim Commissioner
