Dear Colleagues

The New York State Education Department will host the 2019 New York State My Brother's Keeper (MBK) Symposium on Friday, May 31 in Albany. Students, parents, educational leaders, and citizens from across New York State will gather for the symposium on the MBK initiative to help boys and young men of color - and all students - realize their full potential.

Board of Regents Chancellor Betty A. Rosa, Regent Lester W. Young, Jr., Commissioner MaryEllen Elia, and Director of Family and Community Engagement Don-Lee Applyrs will speak as part of the event's Welcome Session. Assistant Commissioner Anael Alston will speak about NYSMBK accomplishments and the path forward, and Dr. Alfonso Wyatt will facilitate a panel of MBK Fellows. We are also honored to have Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie join us and deliver remarks.

We are pleased to have the Executive Director of the National MBK Alliance, Michael Smith, as our keynote speaker! We are also excited to have Cornelius Minor, Principal Baruti Kafele, and Dr. Ronald Ferguson provide their insights about how to best meet the needs of our diverse student body in New York State.

In addition to providing resources and motivating and inspiring participants, we will also induct the 2019 class of MBK Fellows.

A webcast will be available on  NYSED.gov from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31. We encourage you to watch live.

We will also post live updates from the symposium on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. If you attend the event and post on social media, tag us and use these hashtags:
