Bronx Mayoral Control Hearing—Request to Testify
Pursuant to Chapter 364 of the Laws of 2022, the New York State Education Department shall hold one hearing in each borough of New York City to solicit public feedback on the overall effectiveness of mayoral control of New York City schools. On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, the public hearing on mayoral control in the Bronx will take place from 6:00–9:00pm at DeWitt Clinton High School. All members of the public—including students, parents, teachers, school administrators and staff, and individuals with experience and expertise in education policy and school governance—are invited to testify. Public remarks from members of the public that live or work in the Bronx will be prioritized.
For each hearing, advance registration to present oral remarks is required. Individuals wishing to testify must complete the following registration for each hearing will close 48 hours prior to the start of the hearing, or whenever all available speaking slots have been filled, whichever comes first. Oral testimony will be limited to three (3) minutes per speaker, and presenters will testify in the order in which they arrive at the hearing. Longer statements will be accepted via the written electronic testimony form. Please be advised that this public hearing will be conducted in person, and will be recorded and broadcast.
