Edward J. Bosti Elementary Students Purple Up!

In recognition of April as Month of the Military Child, Edward J. Bosti Elementary School in the Connetquot Central School District held a special “Purple Up” assembly on April 26 to honor students whose parents are currently active military. The students honored were Cody Courtney (kindergarten), Liam Cruz (kindergarten), Emily Ramos (grade 5), Leo Ramos (kindergarten), Alexandra Randazzo (grade 2) and Nicholas Randazzo (kindergarten).

Purple Up, observed nationally on April 19, is an opportunity for the nation to honor military children and to recognize and show appreciation for the sacrifices these young people make each day. On this nationally designated day of appreciation, citizens demonstrate their support by wearing purple.

During the assembly, the students heard a poem about the dandelion as the official flower for the Month of the Military Child, due to its resiliency and strength. They also saw a couple of videos depicting the fathers’ way of life overseas as active servicemen. Principal Laura Kimball then called each of the students to the podium to be recognized with a balloon and certificate, thanking them for their sacrifices.

At the end of the ceremony, an American flag, which was flown in support of Operation Spartan Shield, was presented to Lisa Manzo’s second grade class and Mr. Jordan Volper’s kindergarten class.
