Carthage Central School District Celebrates the Month of the Military Child

Every April, schools in the Carthage District have activities planned to celebrate the Month of the Military Child. The Month of the Military Child Celebration was planned to honor our military children in the entire Carthage Central School District! This year's celebration was held on Wednesday, April 19th at 5:30pm which also  happened to be the District’s Purple Up Day!

We reached out to our local installation, Fort Drum, and were honored to have the 10th Mountain Division Band play as well as Col. James L. Zacchino, Fort Drum Garrison Commander, as our keynote speaker. Our very own JROTC Color Guard presented and retired the colors for us and we had six high school and middle school students read a stanza from the Dandelion Poem. New this year, we created a video which included our own military connected students' thoughts and photos of the various events from this school year. Each student was presented with a certificate and a bracelet to show our thanks and  recognize that kids serve too!

With over 40% of our total student population being military-connected we recognize the importance of bringing these students and their family members together to honor and show our support for those daily sacrifices and the strengths exuded by our military connected students. We are so happy with the outcome of this event last year that the Month of the Military Child Celebration here at Carthage has become an annual event!
