The Office of Educational Management Services provides technical assistance and oversight regarding the management of New York State school districts and BOCES and their use of education resources. Specific areas of responsibility include district management services, pupil transportation, BOCES (all aspects), school district organization, contracts for excellence, district budget data and regents state aid proposal development. The office provides support for legislative and regulatory initiatives as well as guidance on required reporting and timelines (property tax cap, budget notice, tax freeze, administrative salary disclosure, etc.).
The intern will be responsible for a variety of activities and programs including, but not limited to the: Smart Schools Bond Act (SBBA) and Contract For Excellence programs. The primary responsibility will relate to approving SSBA plans, an important initiative for both the Governor, Department and Legislature.
The student will have access to software, tools, and inter-office experience and professional development. The student will be learning valuable software skills such as SAS while also gaining a broader understanding of the political and social impact of programs conducted by the office. In addition the student will be provided with a great opportunity to learn from experienced and knowledgeable professionals who directly work in this field of study. The student will also be given the opportunity to develop leadership and ownership over the administration of portions of office programs developing valuable management and administration skills.
