Office of Accountability Winter Internship

Program Office/Description: 

The Office of Accountability (OA) works to ensure equity and access to high quality educational programs for all students and promotes continuous improvement by providing support, resources, and oversight for schools and Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in New York State.

OA is primarily responsible for:
Implementing New York’s Accountability System under New York State’s approved Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan by identifying schools and districts in need of additional support and providing technical assistance, oversight, and support to those schools; and
Managing State and Federal grant programs to LEAs that serve low-income, migrant, homeless, neglected and delinquent youth, and/or rural communities.

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

The intern will assist with:
Conducting research 
The Public School Registration process
The creation and maintenance of files
The preparation and proofreading of letters and documents
Ad hoc assignments

Professional Development Plan : 

Office of Accountability has established protocols regarding the management of intern participation/performance, which includes the assignment of projects with expected outcomes. Each project is outlined in detail at the beginning of the internship. Weekly meetings are held with each intern to obtain feedback regarding the progress of assigned projects and the provision of required supports. A tracking sheet is used to monitor the progress of each project through completion. Interns also present specific research projects that they have been engaged in during their internship. The intern will be provided the opportunity to attend the following monthly meetings: All Staff meetings and Board of Regents meetings.

Desired Skills, Abilities, & Educational Background: 

Intern should be adept with use of MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, Zoom, WebEx and Outlook. Interns must possess an advanced level of skill in English Grammar and Usage and well as keen eye for detail. Interns should also possess strong organizational abilities and the ability to work independently.

Schedule/Hours: 

Intern work hours will take place between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
