Established in 1818, the New York State Library is one of the oldest and the largest state libraries in the nation. NYSL is the only state library to qualify for membership in the Association of Research Libraries. The State Library is a modern public research facility for the government, people and libraries of the State.
The student intern will accept and process requests from customers (in person, over the telephone, via fax and electronically via the online catalog) for materials which must be retrieved from the library stacks, assist customers in locating materials housed on the public floor and re-shelve materials from those collections, answer directional questions, register and update borrower records, and charge out materials for on-site borrowers and ILL requests. The student intern will be responsible for responding to email sent to the Circulation Unit. The student intern will also help improve access to the Library's collections by working on a special project, such as investigating library holdings and creating a bibliography of the Library’s holdings for Moreland Commission reports.
Students may be invited to participate in project development and professional meetings based on their initiative and leadership skills.
