Established in 1818, the New York State Library is one of the oldest and the largest state libraries in the nation. NYSL is the only state library to qualify for membership in the Association of Research Libraries.  The State Library is a modern public research facility for the government, people and libraries of the State.

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

The student in the Cataloging Unit of the New York State Library will assist cataloging staff in their ongoing maintenance of the library’s online catalog. Students will have an opportunity to learn many aspects of contemporary cataloging work, including MARC and RDA. Current projects include searching the online catalog and OCLC for Special Collections newspapers, adding holdings to existing records and copy cataloging OCLC records.

Intern Development Plan : 

Students may be invited to participate in project development and professional meetings based on their initiative and leadership skills.
