Office/Bureau Description: 

Established in 1818, the New York State Library is one of the oldest and the largest state libraries in the nation. NYSL is the only state library to qualify for membership in the Association of Research Libraries.  The State Library is a modern public research facility for the government, people and libraries of the State.

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

The student intern will gain direct public service experience by working on the Public Computer staff desk  assisting customers in searching the Library's online catalog, the Internet and the Library's many online resources.  The student will also work with a Senior Librarian to update the Internet Bibliographies on the Library's website.  Other activities include, but are not limited to:  creating subject bibliographies, updating the Library's Facebook  page, assisting with public programming, creating exhibits, compiling statistics on online database use and preparing draft instructional handouts.  The student intern will also help improve access to the Library's collections by working on one or more special projects. 

Intern Development Plan : 

Students may be invited to participate in project development and professional meetings based on their initiative and leadership skills.
