Graphic Design Internship

Our mission is to ensure that all New York State English Language Learners (ELLs) attain the highest level of academic success and that all Multilingual Learners (MLs) – which include ELLs, Former/Ever ELLs, World Languages students, and heritage speakers of World Languages – achieve the highest level of language proficiency in English and in one or more other languages. Our Vision is to provide leadership that embraces linguistically diverse learners to establish a Multilingual Society.

We strive to ensure that all students’ individual educational paths and socio-emotional needs are met in multiple languages leading them to college and career readiness. NYSED believes that all teachers are teachers of ELLs/MLLs.  Our goal is to provide guidance, technical assistance, and support to NY State Districts, Charter Schools, Non-public Schools, and other organizations (Universities, State Educational Organizations) in the development of programs for  English Language Learners/Multilingual Learners and World Language students. OBEWL serves over 700 Local Education Agencies and over 260,000 ELLs/MLLs from over 200 language backgrounds.

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

This intern will be responsible for the redesign of previously published materials as well as designs for new projects. Projects include website graphics, topic briefs, reports, articles, newsletters, flyers, templates, letterhead signage etc.

Desired Skills, Abilities, & Educational Background: 

Candidate must have advanced knowledge of current graphic design software and file management along with an undersdtanding of design basics and a portfolio of apropriate samples. OBEWL requires that this intern own his/her own software and computer equipment needed to perform these duties. An interest in corporate and not-for profit graphic design is essential. Also preferred would be a talent for copy editing and on-line 508 compliance. The ability to produce on a deadline and work with input of various staff members a must.


10-20 hours per week as needed. Intern may be asked to join weekly staff meetings or other project meetings. Majority of work will be done remotely however candidate can work out of our Albany or Brooklyn offices. Depending on location, candidate can work entire remotely of hybrid.
