The Office of Fiscal Management serves as the fiscal advisor to Department management and staff; maintains fiscal records, accounts, systems and reports; assists in development and dissemination of fiscal policy to comply with State and Federal laws and regulations; and acts as the liaison to Office of the State Comptroller. This unit is responsible for the preparation of State and Federal financial reports and Federal cash draws. The office serves as liaison with U.S. Department of Education concerning indirect costs and cost allocation plans. Audits and processes payments to contractors, vendors, schools, counties, not-for-profit providers, non-employee and employee travel reimbursement vouchers. Issues employee travel advances and revenue refunds. Administers the Department's Consolidated Advance Account including the payment of 3,000 checks each bi-weekly period. Distributes payroll and advance checks to all Department employees.
-Gaining an understanding of the State's procurement workflow while assisitng in the enhancement of policies and procedures for the primary functions of the unit;
-Contributing in reconcilation of the Department's sole custody revenue and advanced bank accouts;
-Involved in data accumulation through ad hoc and standardized reports; and
-Ability to assist in any additional duties of the Office of Fiscal Management.
The intern will gain experience in the accounting operations and payment process of a governmental office working in Fund accounting while developing writing, research, communication, and other skills.
