Auditor Trainee 1, SG-NS (PEF)
The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Senior Auditor position within the Office of P-12 Education’s Administrative Support Group. One of the key responsibilities of the Administrative Support Group is the fiscal oversight of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) grant program. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
On-site and desk review fiscal monitoring of Local Educational Agency’s (LEA)’s use of IDEA grant funds, as well as primary oversight of LEAs compliance with Maintenance of Efforts requirements;
Provide technical assistance to LEAs as needed on all the requirements of IDEA;
Review and approve LEA annual grant applications & budget submissions;
Serve as a fiscal liaison with the United States Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs.
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a Senior Auditor.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) Select Job Titles eligible list for this title.
Section 70.1 Transfer to Auditor Trainee 1: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-13 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law AND possess 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.
Section 70.1 Transfer to Senior Auditor: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title SG-16 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law AND possess 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.
Section 70.4 Transfer to Auditor Trainee 1: Candidates may be eligible for nomination for Section 70.4 transfer to Auditor Trainee 1 if they have standing on the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) eligibility list AND are currently a New York State employee in a title allocated to grade 12 or higher AND possess a bachelor’s degree and 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing or taxation courses.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointee’s negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position requires 25% travel. Verification of degree and/or transcripts will be required for all candidates at the time of interview.
The salary listed above applies to candidates appointed to Senior Auditor, SG-18. The hiring rate for candidates appointed to Auditor Trainee 1 starts at $44,564, and for current New York State employees, is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Transfer candidates to Auditor Trainee 1 and appointees from the Professional Career Opportunities (PCO) Select Job Titles eligible lists will serve a two-year traineeship leading to the grade 18 salary level
