EAP Coordinator (Part-time, 50%), ()

(Open only to current Education Department employees in the Capital District)

The New York State Education Department is seeking candidates for an Employee Assistance Program Coordinator position.  The New York State Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a worksite-based program designed to help State employees manage the everyday issues involved in balancing work and life, as well as more serious problems that may impact work performance.  EAP services are confidential, voluntary, and offered at no cost to employees and their families.

The State Education Department’s EAP Coordinator will serve as a confidential referral source to Education Department employees who are experiencing personal challenges.  The incumbent of this position will report to the Office of Human Resources Management’s Director of Diversity and Access.  Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide confidential information, problem assessment, and referral services to State employees and their family members;
  • Develop and maintain an effective relationship with the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations’ Statewide EAP representative as well as EAP Coordinators from other state agencies;
  • Gather and prepare monthly statistics reflecting EAP engagement across SED; 
  • Attend relevant EAP Coordinator training to ensure the application of best practices, obtain an understanding of the resources available through EAP and ensure compliance with all aspects of the Program;
  • Maintain the integrity of the EAP program by ensuring that confidentiality is adhered to at all times;
  • Ensure that the roster of EAP service providers is available and up to date for all SED employees; and,
  • Maintain SED’s Employee Assistance Program webpage.
Minimum Qualifications: 

All current Education Department employees located in the Capital District, except for union officials, shop stewards or employees of the personnel or human resources functions may apply.

Desired Skills: The desired candidate will possess the ability to communicate with people on a personal level and be a good listener; demonstrate commitment to EAP program goals and have an interest in the general welfare of employees; possess good writing skills; and, demonstrate a history of productive relationships with colleagues.

Conditions of Employment: 

The EAP Coordinator will remain in their current Civil Service title and perform EAP Coordinator tasks at 50%.  There is no additional compensation.
