Guidelines and Standards for the Technology
Infrastructure of 21st Century Educational Facilities

The Department is currently developing a comprehensive strategy to ensure that all new education facilities, whether planned for rehabilitation or new construction, will be able to integrate the latest technology. This strategy will require guidelines and standards to assist institutions in planning for a modern infrastructure. To that end, a consultant has prepared a "white paper," Guidelines and Standards for the Technology Infrastructure of 21st Century Educational Facilities, for public comment. This first draft identifies the potential facilities issues to be included in the guidelines.

We would appreciate technical comments from all interested parties, including users and contractors. Please send comments and any proposed changes to the Office of Technology Policy, Room 530 EB, New York State Education Department, Albany, New York, 12230. Comments can also be sent via e-mail to facility@mail.nysed.gov. We would like to receive all comments by April 30.

In addition, we are also providing an opportunity for interested parties to discuss the paper and any related issues directly with the consultant and Department staff from the various technology and facilities offices. The meeting will be held on April 21 in Albany from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. in Meeting Room D (5th floor of the main Education Building). If you have any questions, please call Chuck DeVoe at 518-486-5832.
