Standards and Assessment Implementation Timelines ~ Revised April 2020

In response to the statewide closures stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the New York State Testing Program was suspended for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. As a result, the planned rollout for new assessments measuring the New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) and the Next Generation Learning Standards (NGLS) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics must be delayed by one year to allow districts to make up the professional learning time lost by the school closures related to COVID-19. Accordingly, ELA and math assessments aligned to the new standards will begin in spring 2022 and science assessments aligned to the new standards will begin in spring 2023.

Detailed timelines of the implementation of the new learning standards are available for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.
